It is widely recognised that the high level of school violence is
critically damaging to South Africa’s future. When schools are unable to provide an environment in which learners
develop the skills essential for a democracy to thrive, it can only have a negative impact on our potential to
develop as a stable and democratic society.
There are a number of indicators for a Safe School Environment:
a school that is free from violence and crime
a postive and welcoming school climate
school users do not experience fear and intimidation
a drug and alcohol free environment
